OMC!!!!!!!!!!!!! the BCC Halloween Bash.
WOW!!! i don't know where to begin. what a great night. the turn-out, the foods brought by all, from the award winning monk who brought loads of sushi, to the handle with care's spicy african soup, so much food! then the crowd called out for the P.T.PuppetShow. "we want P.T!", they shouted. and boy did they get it, a show that is. would you like a cookie?
it's been three years since we've seen P.T. or have a halloween bash, last year because of Sandy and the year before with that crazy blizzard. but the stars were lining up for this night and we were going to fly. from my perspective the P.T.PuppetShow was a blast, old favorites like the Magic Shoe, Dino and Project Genesis. we introduced bill and bob, the "I'll Drink To That Boys", very proud of them. Simpsinatra, Rocky the smoking raccoon, goerge W., and even the Box Heads, they all rocked the show.
we tried to do some kind of scavenger hunt but a walk around the grounds of the BCC Golf Course lead to the Alter for a prayer and then a loss in direction in which the groundkeeper lead the courageous group to visit "Gear head" on the way down to the BCC Barn. there, various artists performed music for the membership and guests till the parties end, the host unable to say goodnight to most of his friends, which he does regret. all in all, what a ball. many forgot to vote for BCC Best Costume, so the Bernardsville Country Club has took it upon itself to make this difficult decision. it's a four way tie between the lovely Princess Diana with her prince, the hooded Monk (priceless), mr. & mrs. walter white (BB) and the awe inspiring Elvis. the BCC would like to thank it's members and guests for making this the great party it was. aBCCNewsProduction

April Fool's Open 2013
july 29th was a sunny day, and that was a special thing in itself lately, it set the tone of the April Fool's Open golf tournament held at the Bernardsville Country Club. blue skies. high spirits. good times. extraordinary golf! with the sun taking it's time, the members and guests had the luxury to take the event all in, a full day of fun, food and fraternizing. a party indeed. fore!
the BCC golf course, if i must say so, was in spectacular condition. it welcomed 12 golfers who gathered to achieve one of backyard golf's highest honors, to hold the coveted silver BCC Cup as the club's champion. last year's Tick Open champ, tony d'anna, returned with the cup, along with other members of the Steeple View CC crew, billy jo and pops, dead eye derek all the way down from connecticut. also there, the rodeo clowns (and one clown's new little family), jeff! jeff! jeff! dreitein and stuart (who?), another old roomy and the lovely cheryl darling, all blessing the club with their appearance.
in the first qualifying round the players got acclimated and started showing the skills that would make this one of the most exciting tournaments in BCC history! the groundskeeper (winning the Octopine Trophy for closest to the pin, 3'8") held a small lead over a tightly packed bunch. in the seeded second round the solid play continued, and it became clear that one needed to make birdies to score points. again the groundskeeper held a small lead (15pts) to make it into the final, along with tony and matt (13pts). the two last spots in the final would be contested with a BCC Cinderrella Story Sudden Death on #5 Octopines Revenge, while members and guests watched from the BCC Patio, as they sat down to enjoy a BCC-Bar-B-Q. the sudden death foretold the final, billy jo and todd, who was now using a fairway wood to the hole, both made birdies, and derek, who was last to play and closest to the pin, didn't. competitive stuff indeed.
her ladyship, monique, hosted the BCC Patio soiree and blessed us with her company, her tomato mozarella garlic hoagie and her german potato salad. bar-b-qued hot dogs, burgers, and the house spicy pork and beans joined the menu. a merry feast was had by all. long live the queen!

the championship round began with the groundskeeper's sand wedge tee shot at #1 O.K. Corral (95yds), soaring at the pin, just over the flag, onto the back of the small green, leaving him with the best effort of the group. the end of the championship round began for the groundskeeper when billy jo made a birdie, ouch. at #2 One Bad Apple (127yds), tony had a mere tap in putt for birdie. on the next hole, Sight Unseen (113yds), matt's ball actually hopped into the hole! then out! another tap in. #4 Octopine (103yds), another birdie by billy jo! omg! guess what happened on #5 Octopine's Revenge (83yds)? another birdie! tony joining billy jo with the lead. #6 Pine's Gauntlet (109yds)? yep! once again billy jo, and once again a birdie. this is nuts! todd shouted out,"i'm here too!", with yet one more birdie on #7 Big Round-up (129yds). what was left? a groundskeeper begging for a point. california todd, just completely disappointed in himself. matt thinking of holding his son again. a defending champ looking for a miracle, just looking. and after tapping in for par, past champ, billy jo became the BCC's only other three time champion, and took the coveted silver BCC Cup home to a shelf at the Steeple View Country Club. hail to capt. billy jo! the BCC thanks members and guests for making it the special day that it was. and the high jinx continued into the night. and the groundskeeper made his point. Monkey Murdered
the Bernardsville Country Club held it's Tick Open golf tournament on october 21st. on short notice the event had a great turnout and it turned out to be a beautiful day, fall colors with sun and a nice breeze, warm. the groundskeeper had been battling the falling leaves and the ever growing grass the whole week and although victory was not achieved the eight holes of the BCC course were playable. the members came from far and wide, most by car some by deadly vespa. they gathered at the BCC Patio to begin, dr. todd was presented the Octopine Trophy for his closest to the pin shot of 4'11" at last years Tick Open, groups were chosen and the tournament started. time and sunlight being a major concern.
thoughts of combining the event with an inter-club competition were dissmissed but did influence the first round groupings. derek, tony, jeff, todd and mike mcann saw touchdown tony, "best player not to have won a backyard championship", make his opening statement with 3 birdies and 10 points. the group of billy jo, pops, mike r. and pete battled to 5-5-5-3 respectively. randy, chris, matt, newcomer adam(-ski) joined the groundskeeper in the last group, the reigning champ showing good form with 3 birdies and 11 points. it was also during this round that this BCC reporter witnessed an astounding shot made by rodeo clown matt, on #4 Octopine (103yds) matt birdied from some 45 feet with his putter, a shot that would have even shocked jeff wood (first man to play with a putter at the BCC). this new technique, the talk of the tournament, followed matt into the final.
scores were tallied at the BCC Patio, the weber grill was started and the seeded qualifying round began shortly after. scramble was the word for the second round, less birdies, with points had by all, all the while enjoying a fine array of foods brought by the membership at the BCC Bar-B-Q. the other rodeo clown mike mcann won closest to the pin honors and the Octopine Trophy. after the scorecards were turned in we had five competitors in the final, the reigning champ (18pts), two former BCC champs (billy jo 10 & mike r. 11), a wacky putting rodeo clown (matt 12) and a man with a monkey on his back (tony 12).
the first shot was heard at #1 OK Corral (95yds), a birdie, were tony had to share points with matt, after he had made another ridiculous birdie putt. on the next two holes, #2 One Bad Apple (127yds) and #3 Sight Unseen (113yds), everyone got on the board with pars and shared points. the second shot was heard at #4 Octopine when tony holed out a long chip shot to make birdie, but again having to share points, this time with mike. the monkey had definitely been hit.

shots rang out again at #5 Octopine's Revenge (83yds) where tony made the sole birdie, pulling away from the field. the monkey was now mortally wounded. the kill shot occurred at #6 Pine's Gauntlet (109yds) tony standing over a near tap in, bang. nothing could stop him now, not even the groundskeeper's taunts of "his tournament to lose" could change the course of history. the monkey was dead.
no miracle comebacks today, what we heard at #7 Big Roundup (129yds) were not shots, no, it was more like a "thud". when tony made par the monkey fell off. Touchdown Tony D'anna 2012 BCC Tick Open Champion!!! the verdict is in, the case is closed. the monkey is dead, long live the monkey!
the BCC thanks all it's members for making it the special day that it was. A BCC production
