2010 BCC Halloween Bash!
god bless all of us...“nope! or “i’m sorry” or no response at all, that’s the kind of calls the secretary at the Bernardsville Country Club was receiving all morning and afternoon, on oct. 30th, the day of the BCC Halloween Bash. she didn’t tell the BCC groundskeeper who was hard at work, preparing the BCC Clubhouse, Haunted Barn and Grounds, plus all of it’s planned activities, for, well, one hell of a party! the big G, as many like to call him, enjoys creating the atmosphere, offering some entertainment, and providing a gathering place for BCC Member’s and their guest’s, possible future member’s of the Club, to let it go and have a good time. it's written in the BCC manifesto!well. the many guests, or future member’s of the club, comprised more than half the attendees of this event, and from their responses i think they are leaning towards the latter. all those who attended enjoyed a nice spread of pot luck foods, cocktails and “cookies” before sitting down to a performance by the P.T.PuppetShow. and ladies and gentlemen, this was a special night for the well rehearsed cast, a show full of surprises and laughs, a wonderful accomplishment that lead to a clubhouse full of laughing, happy people. “that was one hell of a show!” said Dino, P.T.’s sidekick and left hand man.
Simpsinatra's amazing transformation during his haunting rendition of "it was a very good year" that left the crowd in amazement!after that, there was BCC scavenger hunt, slightly different this year (different architect), but it was still a ball, getting the party outdoors to find clues for the hunt while seeing many of the BCC horror attractions and storied locations. finally ending up in the BCC Haunted Barn to declare the winners of the hunt, hand out their prizes, and hear a short set from Simpsinatra, or was that Bobby Jones, no matter. we laughed our way through that one too, some more than others. one guest noted that it was one of the best nights she’s had in a long time. i couldn’t have said it better myself. the Bernardsville Country Club would like to thank it’s member’s, future member’s and guests for making it the special night that it was."mike, i just wouldn't trust him" PS: it seems everyone was having such a “good time”, members and guests forgot to vote for best costume. i didn’t, in fact i voted twice. winner of the best costume trophy for this year’s BCC Halloween Bash was Bobby Jones. for all intensive purposes, that’s correct. ha ha..peace. greatest backyard golf tournament of all time!
>less than a foot away. that’s were jef’s ball lie. a tap-in to par, a tie and the BCC boy wonder wins the 2010 Steeple View Country Club "Steeplechase" championship. it was the last hole in the final round and jef and i were tied, in first, with 5 points each. derek was the only other finalist with a chance, he had 3 points. derek’s second shot was next, and with eyes it rolled into the hoop/hole. a three way tie. the SVCC rules state,”if any players are tied after 9 holes, said players will play a 3 hole playoff (holes#4,5&6). if still tied players play sudden death on holes #5 and #6 repeatedly until the tie is broken.” on the first sudden death hole at #5 the match was won by the SVCC’s ace in the hole, derek schultz. amazing. well done jef. the BCC would like to thank the SVCC for hosting another wonderful event, and congratulate the SVCC greenskeeper on his innovative improvements to the SVCC golf course, that once again demonstrates, the continuous evolution of backyard golf.svcc champion derek

The April Fools Open of 2010
bernardsville nj : on sunday july 11th the Bernardsville Country Club held the 12th annual April Fools Open golf tournament. it was a special day for the club and groundskeeper, with the special ribbon cutting celebration introducing the members and guests to the greatly anticipated golf course renovations. the four new holes, each 18 inches wide and 7 inches deep. “it’s an evolution in backyard golf!”, said a highly respected BCC historian.the BCC had a wonderful turnout for this long overdue event (july/april?). most of the founding members were on hand, metamorphosis mike, jef “skully” dryline, louie “the fluke” thehellwith, the dandy randy, chris “the butt” cassini and even, if only to cheer the boys on, pete “the eagle” johnson, who has been recovering from a golfing incident that occurred at #2 One Bad Apple (127yds) not that long ago. the rodeo clowns were there, matt and mike! the Steeple View Country Club consortium of capt. billy jo, robert “pops” auld, johnny Z and derek “sucker punch” schultz, along with french canadian newcomers pete “kegger” rouillard and his younger brother tim “little john” rouillard. some other members that also graced us with their appearance were her ladyship from bay head, with her servant boy jan, the lovely couple kurt and may, jill “keith richards” richmond joining her husband pete, and john sperry with his beautiful wife robin. just add the BYOB BCC Clubhouse, BYOStuff BCC Patio with BCC Bar-B-Q, and you have yourself a party! and it was.once everybody arrived, most fashionably late, a short orientation was made by the groundskeeper reminding and advising members of the BCC rules of golf and informing them about proper BCC Hole etiquette, most importantly, that the hole was considered sacred ground and not to be stepped in. after forming a circle and spinning a tee to decide the 1st round groupings, the golfers gathered around the green by the first tee for a brief ribbon cutting ceremony inaugurating the holes themselves, a proud moment for the Bernardsville Country Club.tim rouillard lead the first group in the first qualifying round, that being the first four clockwise holes of the eight hole BCC course played twice, with a four birdie barrage, 10 points and his name on the top of the leader board. derek headed the second foursome with 9 points, highlighted by three consecutive birdies to finish his round, and that was after matt scored the 1st tournament hole in one at #4 Octopine (103yds), winning the Octopine Trophy for closest to the pin. the groundskeeper lead the 3rd group with 7 points and couple of ice cold cocktails. the second seeded qualifying round, which consists of eight counterclockwise holes, saw the younger french canadian, timmy, continue his dominance over his group and the course tallying up 9 more points and still on top of the pack with a 19 total. in the 2nd group billy jo made a nice comeback with 3 birdies and an 11 point total for 4th place while derek easily made enough points, 6 more, to make it into the final in 3rd. the groundskeeper dedicated his round to bacardi and coke and scored 11 additional points putting him in 2nd place. with him matt managed 2 points to slide into the Cinderella story 5th position with 7 points.the stage was set for an exciting championship round. the course was playing hard, fast, and challenging, the holes were providing instant drama and all the contestants were able competitors, involved in a day long war of attrition. so let there be a feast under the tented BCC Patio to celebrate the occasion and prepare the friendly combatants for the final battle for the coveted silver BCC Cup and the 2010 April Fools Open title! and there was.
the following is the groundskeepers recollections of the final round:“ #1 O.K.Corral (95yds), with these hard fairways and greens, O.B. lurking behind, that requires maybe a 69 yard shot factoring in for bounce and roll, that’s what i was thinking as i sipped my icy cold rum and coke. i actually don’t know what anybody else did that round, louie was the official scorekeeper, so i was free to focus. so nice and easy i hit the spot with a lob wedge and the ball rolled onto the green, 9 iron bump and run from 15 feet dropped into the cup, birdie. nice way to start a championship round.grinded out a par at #2 One Bad Apple (127yds) and shared some points with billy jo and derek. at #3 Sight Unseen (113yds), with honors at the tee, i made a good swing on an aggressive line over the pines at the hidden hole with a pitching wedge. only to find out it was not good enough, my ball had hit a tree and landed near the BCC Alter, this was a bad omen? not only was i surrounded and blocked by pine trees, i also had not stocked the BCC Alter with ice cold “jeagermeister” for prayer. hell! it's a BCC tradition!i took a sip of my bacardi and coke and placed it on the Alter and then i saw the light, an opening, for a shot, i punched out but could not join billy jo and derek who made par and shared points. there was trouble at #4 Octopine (103yds), it requires a delicate shot over the pines tentacles yet not too far to bounce down the slope into oblivion (the bushes). even my 3/4 sand wedge went dangerously long, others were not so lucky. matt and i halved the hole with pars. halfway, 4-2-2-1-0, water, breathe, relax. #5 Octopines Revenge (83yds), pars were made by billy jo, matt and myself. #6 Pines Gauntlet (109yds) i made a tap-in par and shared points with tim, a first time contestant who made a gallant effort but obviously had no idea what he had gotten himself into, lol.at #7 Big Roundup (129yds), everything seemed fine, i had missed a couple of birdie chances but i still had the lead and i hit a nice pitching wedge clearing the fence into the corral and then, where’s my ball? over there? no? there! no! no matter. boom! billy jo nails his birdie. is mike r. his caddy? 6-5-2-2-1. #8 Barn’s Window (111yds), billy jo had the tee but again i was lost in deep thought, “a full swing pitching wedge? no. an aggressive but controlled punch 9 iron right up to the hole”. seeing images that become irresistible paths. witnesses at the hole said it missed by inches. with nothing left but a tap-in birdie. April Fools Open, what a party!” BCCNews

the last hoop in one.
@ the Bernardsville Country Club...it was on september 27th 2004 that the 12th, and last, “hoop in one” was achieved on the BCC golf course at #4 Octopine (96yds). and it was in 1996 that the simple yellow hoops were adopted by the BCC, along with the “hoop in one club” which had it’s first member on march 29th 1998. when that same man made his second the club nicknamed him the “eagle”. oh! what a history these hoops have had, and made. even on the hoops introduction, who could forget “feola’s folly” at #7 Big Roundup (129yds) on the final round of the second annual Tick Open, the horror. the Bernardsville Country Club looks forward to starting a new history with the “holes”, but we will never forget the “hoops”, or the unique beauty of the grassy “hoop in one”.

and another BCC season begins...
On short notice, once again, the Bernardsville Country Club held a Second Christmas & New Years Eve party on january 9th, 2010 for it's members. giving a chance for the BCC groundskeeper to catch up with old friends after his return from warmer parts of this world. the members enjoyed a delicious pot luck meal, headed by chef tony (chicken and mushrooms, sausage and peppers) along with the cooking of louie and stacy, team zhelesnik (butternut squash soup, broccoli rape, a great salad), with strong assists by lori r. (special potato skins), pete "the eagle" johnson (hoboken bread), kurt & may (box of cheese and treats), tequila jeff (pigs in blankets and desserts) feola (probably brought some port). new members dr. mark with his lovely wife and her equally lovely friend lisa also stopped in for the holiday festivities. the groundskeeper had entertainment available but none was needed as mike r. and members enjoyed christmas music by the roaring fire place, the BCC christmas train with double christmas trees, the BCC ping pong stadium and dancing in the Elvis Room, maybe even a daring sleigh ride into the dark to see the stars! the party was on! the fire was kept lit into the wee hours of the morning, while the hole wide world is fast asleep. christmas gifts were exchanged, new years wishes were made. some members said good night, but many stayed. rooms were reserved, there were couches by the fire, eventually the BCC members did retire (well jef d. drove home at 5am, vhat!). but it was only hours before the sun did rise and then, the smell of coffee (rise cheryl! rise willy!), of apple bacon pancakes (rise maxie! rise bruce!), another fire (where's jef?), and this party started again! more sledding! more, more, more and more all again...
